The Yucatán Peninsula, formed mostly by limestone, is penetrated by big underground cave and river systems. Wherever the ceiling collapsed, access to the groundwater was exposed - that's how these cenotes were created. For Mayans, these sinkholes were the only water supply and were believed to be the doorway to the underworld.
Scuba divers worldwide are attracted to these cenotes because of their crystal-clear fresh water, the ancient stalagmites and stalactites and simply because of the unparalleled experience of diving in one of them.
Despite their many similarities each cenote has different features to be discovered.

The Mexican island of Cozumel is well-known for hosting an exeptionally beautiful underwater paradise - Jacques Cousteau named it one of the Top 10 dive spots in the world. Warm waters 25-29ºC with amazing visibility, colourful corals, steep walls, swim throughs and incredible marine life wait for us to be explored. Eagle rays, turtles and nurse sharks are just a few of the inhabitants of this special stretch of Mesoamerican Barrier Reef.
